So, let me begin by saying that I watched the t.v. show before I read the books. To be fair, I didn’t actually know The 100 t.v. show was based off of a book series until I stumbled upon the second one at Barnes and Noble. I was horrified, because one of my rules is a never watch a movie/t.v. show based off of a book until I have read that book. It was rather distressing to me to realize I had broken that rule.

But ignoring the t.v. show side of it for a second, let me just say: this book wasn’t fantastic. It had a very interesting plot, but the whole being-stranded-on-Earth thing kind of gets pushed aside in favor of, you guessed it, romance. Their “survival” on Earth consists of pitching a couple of tents and killing a two-headed deer and a long-tailed rabbit. This book was also woefully short.

And I am going to do the thing. The horrible, unforgivable thing. I am going to compare the book to the t.v. show (gasp!).

-Not enough Octavia in the books. She gets mentioned what, like four times? I adore t.v. show Octavia, she’s a much more developed, interesting character. In the books she falls flat.

-I find Bellamy the antihero more interesting than lovesick Bellamy. Bellamy and Clarke’s relationship in the show is so complex and all tangled up, whereas in the books it’s very…easy.

-While I found the world building in the show lacking, but the world building in the book was even worse.

-The show mostly focuses on survival of the fittest, the book on romance. Three guess to which I prefer.

As much as it pains me to say it, I do enjoy the t.v. show more than the book. The book is a romance masquerading as survival/post-apocalyptic, which was very disappointing to say the least.

However, there were a couple of things I enjoyed.

-You get to know more about Clarke’s life before she was arrested.

-It further explains the Clarke/Wells relationship.

-You get to know a little bit more about the laws and life in general on the ARC, or, as it’s called in the book, the Colony.

So, yeah. The book wasn’t fantastic, but there were still parts I enjoyed. I do think that the show is better, because the show is more like what I was expecting for the plot. If you want to read this, I’d recommend getting it from the library, not buying it, because you will most likely be disappointed.

Two Stars

In other news, there’s only one more Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. episode left. And it looks like it’s going to be intense. I’m slightly scared, because I read this interview with one of the actors (I think it was Clark Gregg…could have possibly been Chloe Bennet) that said not everyone is going to pull out of this.

Which ignited this in my head: DON’T KILL FITZSIMMONS. KILL ANYONE ELSE, BUT JUST DON’T LET MY SHIP SINK BEFORE IT EVEN SET SAIL.

Um.

I’m a little bit worried, can’t you tell? But there’s going to be a season 3, which is good, and the Agent Carter thing is starting to look hopeful. And the Teen Wolf season 5 trailer is out, which tells me absolutely nothing other than the tagline and the new villains (The Rules Have Changed and The Doctors) I believe it airs the last Tuesday in June, though I’d have to double check because I’m not positive.

So, that has my life lately. Non-stop fangirling over stuff.
