She should have stayed trapped in that glass bubble on the cover.

MatchedCassia has always trusted the Society to make the right choices for her: what to read, what to watch, what to believe. So when Xander’s face appears on-screen at her Matching ceremony, Cassia knows with complete certainty that he is her ideal mate… until she sees Ky Markham’s face flash for an instant before the screen fades to black.

The Society tells her it’s a glitch, a rare malfunction, and that she should focus on the happy life she’s destined to lead with Xander. But Cassia can’t stop thinking about Ky, and as they slowly fall in love, Cassia begins to doubt the Society’s infallibility and is faced with an impossible choice: between Xander and Ky, between the only life she’s known and a path that no one else has dared to follow.(Synopsis taken from Goodreads)

I thought this was a super interesting idea, and it was one of the first times I willingly read a book that I knew had a love triangle.

Well, it fell flat.

The idea, while interesting enough to make me subject to the horror of a love triangle, there were a few problems.Namely, the book bored me to tears.

The writing had no spice to it, nothing to make it unique. It was very straight-forward and bland, like you were reading a lecture instead of a novel (that was supposed to be fantastic). I couldn’t bring myself to care what happened with the plot, nor what happened to the characters.

Cassia is your typical, cliche YA heroine. No personality, constantly brooding over two guys (one forbidden, and one not), and, in an attempt to make her more interesting, she’s naturally “the different one” with everything. This book was a total waste of time, and, since I knew this series had a whole bunch of hype, I decided to try out the next one. It still bored me to tears. I don’t think I’m ever going to read the third one.

The only thing that saves it from a one-star review is the world building. While the writing that describes it is bland, the world is rather fascinating.

In other news, the Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. finale (the final scene, mostly) broke me into pieces. I responded with fanfiction, which I am now obsessively writing BECAUSE I NEED THIS CHARACTER TO BE OKAY.

Next, Mom and I are leaving for San Fransisco tomorrow. I’m pretty excited, and, cool kid like I am, I have made a list of bakeries I want to visit. If anyone has any suggestions, shout ’em out.

Illusionarium is coming out on Tuesday. EEEEEEE. Also, I completely forgot to place a hold on The Heir and so now I’m something like 341st in line, out of 25 copies. I won’t get it for years.

Finally, people keep telling me to start watching Supernatural. Should I, or should I not? All I know about it is it’s two brothers and an angel who kill demons and die a lot. And that the fandom has a GIF for everything. So, anyways, should I? Because Teen Wolf starts back up again in late June and that’s going to be heartwrenching (I read an interview), and I can only handle so much fandom stress at one time.

Happy Friday,

  1. Hah, i agree with this one. It was typical dystopian and really boring too. To be “matched” with someone. It doesn’t happen to all of society, but that’s basically taking a setting that’s current, changing everyone’s ethnicity to Caucasian and adding some pills because apparently, people have to be killed at a certain age. I didn’t get that part either. And how they spent so much time at the pool. Okay, we get it. Now go do something actually interesting.

My rating was lower lol but great review!

  2. SUPERNATURAL IS MY LIFE. ALL FANDOMS PALE IN COMPARISON TO MA TWO WINCHESTER BROS. *flails and dies* But, yes, it’s super stressful and super painful and usually frustrating because everyone lies to each other and dies. >.> So watch it. Be in pain. I will have small chocolate pieces and popcorn to comfort you with. (HA, who are we kidding?! PAIN = LURVE IT.) Ahem.

Also, yes, this is exactly how I felt about Matched. Plus I felt cheated since, you know that ending….she didn’t even really love EITHER guy. It was all set up by the government?! WUT. So yes. I felt entirely cheated and I didn’t enjoy it at all. The world is interesting though! I can’t imagine a world with no history or culture…oh wait. Didn’t the Giver do that? har har, yes. -_- So it’s not original at all, but at least you tried it, right?!

    1. FANGIRLS LIVE FOR PAIN. I just might start it. AoS ended so I don’t have anything ’til the end of June. And Matched was a total, compete waste of time. But at least I tried it
