In which I spill my NaNoWriMo secrets

Yep.

You all knew this day would come, the day in which I spill my plans and secrets for NaNoWriMo this year, and try to convince all of you who are not doing NaNoWriMo to do it. Even if you’re not a writer. Even if you despise writing with the very depths of your soul. I still think you should do it.

But because I want all those doing NaNoWriMo to be friends with me, I will once again tell you that my screen name is VintageTypewriter, and you can find my author info thingy here. I basically want all my friends to do NaNoWriMo with me. We could do a group that’s just for book bloggers. Who knows! It’d be fun.

My novel idea is finalized and ready and waiting for November 1st: Peter Pan retelling with the tentative title of Never, Never (possibly Never? Never if I stop worrying about it connecting too closely to the Okay? Okay of The Fault in Our Stars).

Here’s the synopsis thingy:

Maisie was SUPPOSED to be on vacation. She was SUPPOSED to be spending quality time with her aunt and uncle and younger cousins, and she was SUPPOSED to be reading every book she got her hands on. Instead, she gets kidnapped by Peter Pan’s shadow, nearly gets killed, and ends up on a pirate ship run by the one and only Captain Hook’s daughter. And the only way to get back to the real world is to strike a bargain, one that might or might not get her killed.

After all, Neverland isn’t what the stories made it out to be.

I’m keeping this one short for the possibility of entering it for the Thirty Covers Thirty Days thing that they do, and last year I had to cut my synopsis down significantly. I also wrote a short little preview that might or might not end up in the actual novel.

“Everything is trying to kill me!” I threw my hands up, only to cause my arm to start throbbing anew. Wincing, I lowered them. “Peter Pan is apparently a crazy psychopath who kidnaps girls to feed to blood sucking pixies and turns boys into weird animal mutants, whom, by the way, have already almost killed me. I nearly got my eyes ripped out by birds, and even the plant life is deadly!” I brandished my arm, which was no longer black, but now a rather unpleasant green color, shot through with veins of an equally unpleasant yellow. It was still swollen, but it was only twice its normal size, instead of three times like it had been earlier.

Wasp leaned against the wall, smirking. “It’s your own fault for falling into a sanguinum spina. Honestly, you should know better.”

“And you! You’re the daughter of Captain Hook and Wendy. Captain Hook was supposed to be the villain, and Peter Pan was supposed to be the good guy, and Wendy was not supposed to be old enough to have a kid.”

“Do you always trust everything you read?”

“Shut up and let me have a mental breakdown in peace.”

Ta da. We’ll see how it goes, but I do have to say I feel ten times more confident about this idea than I did last year’s, so I have hope.

I’m planning on writing 2,000 words a day. Not extremely difficult (I can do that in about an hour and a half on a bad writing day, I can do almost twice that in the same amount of time on a good one), so if for whatever reason I can’t write one day, I have a little bit of cushioning.

And, since I’ve spent the whole time talking about me and my plans, I want to know: What are your plans for NaNoWriMo? Do you have a solid idea or are you still grasping at straws? Are you a planner or a pantser? And, finally, are you actually doing NaNoWriMo this year (if you’re not, you should!)?
