I have something to confess: I actually don’t like reading on the beach that much! There’s too much sand and people playing loud music and using my book as an excuse to talk to me. Like, maybe if I was in a tent on the beach with no one around I would be happy, but that doesn’t happen!
Confession number two: my “beach reads” are actually books that I’ve had on my TBR pile for more than a couple of months and still haven’t gotten to. Which, funnily enough, tends to be either be the most…ahem…graphic of books. Completely by accident, too! I don’t plan it that way. Like, I tend to be huddled down low desperetely thinking “not read over my shoulder nope nothing interesting certainly not a dragon frying someone and then eating them and then making out with their boyfriend/girlfriend” (although that’s just an example).
So! I’m cheating on this prompt a little bit. Instead of listing typical, first summer romance-type beachy reads, I’m going to list ten novels I think I’ll probably end up reading on the beach.
RUINED BY AMY TINTERA
I won an ARC of this about a month ago, and despite me wanting to read it, I just…haven’t yet. And from what I’m hearing it’s a rather spectacular novel, so I don’t know why I keep putting off reading it, I just do.
THIS SAVAGE SONG BY VICTORIA SCHWAB
I really have no idea why I haven’t read this yet. I mean, it seems like something I would totally love. Monsters! Morally ambiguous characters! But I haven’t picked it up yet.
THE WALLED CITY BY RYAN GRAUDIN
I DO know why I haven’t read this one yet. It’s because I loved Wolf By Wolf, and so I have super high (and also possibly unfair) hopes for it, and I don’t want my hopes to be dashed. I don’t think it will…it has a pretty high average rating on Goodreads, but you never can tell.
THE ROSE & THE DAGGER BY RENEE AHDIEH
I read and loved The Wrath and the Dawn! I’ve met Renee Ahdieh! I really, really, want to know what happens next! But I still haven’t picked up The Rose & The Dagger. Possibly because I just recently learned that it’s a duologoy and not a trilogy like I thought, possibly because I’m scared of it being not as good, I dunno! But it’s sitting on my shelf!
THE DARKEST MINDS BY ALEXANDRA BRACKEN
I bought this for myself…oh…three months ago? Maybe a little longer? I can’t even remember why I did, because normally when I buy a book just to buy a book I read it right away, but I still haven’t. And I have to say, this book is a weirdly heavy paperback. Like, it’s even heavier than some of my hardbacks.
NOWHERE BUT HERE BY KATIE MCGARRY
I actually won this novel and a copy of Kindred Spirits from Kat over at Life and Other Disastors. Kindred Spirits was an adorable little short story, but I still haven’t read Nowhere But Here. I intend too! I intend too! I just haven’t yet.
THE ASK AND THE ANSWER BY PATRICK NESS
I bought a copy for $2 at a local used bookstore about two months ago. And it is currently sitting on my self, staring at me reproachfully because I fully intended to read it as soon as I got home, but then all (literally all) my library holds came in all at once and so I couldn’t. Soon! Soon!
THE PARTICULAR SADNESS OF LEMON CAKE BY AIMEE BENDER
I was gifted a copy of this by my cousin. And it has cake in the title AND on the cover. But who in their right mind would frost a lemon cake with chocolate frosting? It makes no sense! Maybe that’s why I haven’t read it yet.
THE INCREDIBLE ADVENTURES OF CINNAMON GIRL BY MELISSA KEIL
I finally caved and bought a copy of it off of online because it was taking FOREVER for it to come out in the US. And it got to me pretty much right as the book came out in the US. So in a fit of rage induced by book shipping and publishers who take forever to give other countries the right to publish the book I have not read it yet.
NORA & KETTLE BY LAUREN NICOLLE TAYLOR
I really have no idea why I haven’t read this yet.I just haven’t.
Tell me oh blogglings, are you like me and your beach reads are the ones that you’ve been putting off reading too long, or do you read the more typical summery, fluffy romances? Have you ever read a book in public that made you pray that no one was reading over your shoulder? If so, what was it? And do you agree with me that sand in books is one of the worst things ever?
Happy Tuesday,
Ooo, I hadn’t heard of The Incredible Adventures of Cinnamon Girl before, and now I totally want to read it. I just looked it up and am liking that the protagonist is talented, loyal, and confident in her plus-sizedness.

It seems like it’s super good, and I feel like it has a pretty high average reading on Goodreads, so…hopefully! Fingers crossed!

I really want to read The Darkest Minds, it sounds so good! I have the same trouble as you though, I’ll totally mean to read a book and then a bunch of my other library holds come in and I forget all about it. π

I swear the library plans this, so we either have to stress out and abandon our bookstores OR rack up crazy amounts in fines.

I keep hearing that! And the main girl is a baker, right? Which naturally means I should have read it as soon as I had it in my hands.

I totally plan to…as soon as I actually remember to pick it up. Because I feel like it’s been almost a year since I’ve read the first so reading the second is long overdue.

Hahaha! I was thinking the same thing about The Particular Sadness of Lemon Cake’s cover! That looks more like a classic yellow cake with chocolate frosting! Man, now I want cake! π I read it a long time ago, and I really enjoyed it! Hopefully you like it as much as I did! π
My Top Ten Tuesday!

It’s just…it doesn’t really seem appatizing, lemon and chocolate. I guess they didn’t get a baker to design the cover!
