With today’s Top Ten Tuesday prompt…you guys get to hear about me. Which is clearly the most fantastic thing ever (#humble #icantbelieveijustusedafreakinghashtag #itssohardtowritewithoutspaces).
Yep.
I actually don’t have a lot to say today.
FANTASTIC BOOKISH FACT NUMBER ONE
I TOTALLY JUDGE BOOKS BY THEIR COVERS
ADMIT IT. You do, too. You’ll be a hundred times more likely to pick up a book with a pretty cover than one with an ugly cover. People who say otherwise are liars and not to be trusted.
FANTASTIC BOOKISH FACT NUMBER TWO
I FINALLY, FINALLY GOT A NEW BOOKSHELF
And I’m totally in love with it. I actually have space, now! And it’s way prettier than my older one and I want to show it off, so expect a bookshelf tour coming your way soon.
FANTASTIC BOOKISH FACT NUMBER THREE
I’M A MANGLER OF CHARACTER NAMES
I’ll often add an extra letter that isn’t even in the name for no reason at all. Like Chaol, from Throne of Glass? For the longest time I pronounced it “Choo-A-all”, even though there’s no extra O. And it wasn’t until I saw Sarah J. Maas in a video pronouncing it “Kay-all” that I managed to switch it in my mind. And Sean Kendrick, from The Scorpio Races? I know his name is pronounced “Shawn”, but I’ll keep right on pronouncing it “Seen”, anyway.
FANTASTIC BOOKISH FACT NUMBER FOUR
I LIKE BIG BOOKS AND I CANNOT LIE
I know a lot of people kind of shy away from the giant 800+ page beasts that are out there, but I kind of like longer books. There’s more book to enjoy.
FANTASTIC BOOKISH FACT NUMBER FIVE
IF I DON’T HAVE SOMEONE WITH ME WHEN I GO INTO A BOOKSTORE I’LL BUY THE ENTIRE YA SECTION
But someone watching you as you gather up a stack of $100 dollars in books is slightly uncomfortable.
FANTASTIC BOOKISH FACT NUMBER SIX
I DIDN’T START READING YA UNTIL I WAS FIFTEEN
This was mostly because for a long time (until I started book blogging, really), I refused to read anything but the authors I knew and loved. This worked out fine when I was still reading the book series like Junie B. Jones and Magic Tree House, where the authors can pump out several new books a year, but as I started reading more complicated stuff it got a little harder. I eventually changed by ways.
FANTASTIC BOOKISH FACT NUMBER SEVEN
I’VE ACTUALLY NEVER DRESSED UP AS A CHARACTER FROM A BOOK FOR HALLOWEEN BEFORE
I know, it’s crazy, especially since everyone under the age of eighteen has dressed up as Harry or Hermione for Halloween at least once, but I still haven’t, and that’s utterly shocking to me.
I AM planning on going as Celaena Sardothien from the Assassin’s Blade cover, though. Mostly because I think her cloak is super cool and also because my friend bet me that no one would no who I was. I WILL FIND ANOTHER FAN ON HALLOWEEN.
FANTASTIC BOOKISH FACT NUMBER EIGHT
THE LIBRARIANS AT MY LOCAL LIBRARY KNOW ME
I have become known among them for being the girl who has 20 books on hold come in at a time. They don’t actually know my name, but they know who I am.
FANTASTIC BOOKISH FACT NUMBER NINE
I WISH I COULD TAKE AWESOME PICTURES OF BOOKSTORES
Buuuuuut it makes me anxious to do so. Like, if the bookstore was completely empty, sure, but if there’s even one other person it makes me super uncomfortable because I don’t want to be seen as “that person” who takes photos of everything I see. Of course, I know this is stupid, but I can’t help it.
FANTASTIC BOOKISH FACT NUMBER TEN
I WILL SOMETIMES FORGET TO EAT IF I’M READING A REALLY GOOD BOOK
I will be reading, and then I’ll surface because I’ll either finish the book or someone called for me and realize that hey, it’s four o’clock and I still haven’t eaten lunch.
So! What are some fantastic bookish facts about you? Do our lists share anything (besides number two, because everyone does this)?
Happy Tuesday,
I butcher names, too! I always think “Seen” instead of “Shawn” and it was “Chah-ole” in my head for the longest time (still sometimes is). The worst is when I’m trying to talk about a book with someone and I have no idea how to pronounce something because I think of it as “that long word that starts with a C and kind of looks like this other word.”

It just…should be pronounced Seen. ALL LAWS OF ENGLISH SAY IT SHOULD BE PRONOUNCED SEEN.
Ooo, yes, that’s always super awkward.

Yay for new bookshelves! There’s just this especially exciting feeling when you get one, you know? (Also I never said Chaol’s name correctly either until I saw Sarah’s video; I called him Cole. xD) Oh! And I didn’t start reading most YA (minus the super popular ones) until I was about fifteen, too. I was very attached to my favorite middle grade series and I was quite the book snob. xD

I ACTUALLY HAVE EMPTY SHELVES I CAN FILL WITH BOOKS. IT’S SO EXCTING. Sarah J. Maas has awesome names and yet I can never figure out how to pronounce them. I called him several things. I called Nehminia or whoever it’s spelled Nemmy because I had no clue how to actually pronounce it.

I am also totally guilty of buying a pretty book over everything else! Even if a book has received so much hype and praise if it has an ugly cover I probably wont want to read it haha! I love big books, the bigger the better! I love them because I hate when I’m loving a story but then it’s over in like 300 pages (which is like a day for me), whereas 700 page book last DAYYYYSS! **throws confetti** I also buy to many books if I’m by myself in the bookstore, especially if it’s like just the day after pay day! Great post, I love learning new things about bloggers!

It’s so weird that that’s the case but it is? And I wonder why? HUGE BOOKS. Like, why can’t all books be Lady Midnight size?

FACT FIVE DEFINITELY APPLIES TO ME. I’ll also just sit and stare at the shelves. It’s so nice and calming!! I love the atmosphere of bookstores ❤
So does number ten. Books are the most important thing, obviously xD

I DO THAT TOO. I’m sure I’ve freaked other bookstore-goers out because I’ll just be standing in an isle staring at the shelves for five minutes not actually picking up any books.

I totally need someone to hold me back from buying ALL the books as well. My bank account is in peril danger whenever I am near a store. And I am a super big cover snob … I just can’t deny my true nature.

Bookstores should have people that will follow bookworms around the store to stop them from buying an insane amount of books. And then, when you’re done, you tip them or something.

That would be an absolute FANTASTIC idea! I would also like to work as that person. I get to have debates about how many books they can buy and which ones are more important. It would be awesome!

It would. And you could totally influence what they buy, too. “Oh, that one isn’t that great, but here, this one is” and you could have people read your favorite books.

I’ve totally forgotten to eat lunch on days off when I’ve gotten really involved in a good book. 🙂
Check out my TTT.

I think all bookworms are guilty of that.
