Today’s Top Ten Tuesday theme is an audio freebie…and I chose Top Ten Books you NEED to listen to as audiobooks.
I actually don’t listen to audiobooks that often anymore. I did when I was younger, but that was back when they were mostly CDs, and you couldn’t just download the audiobook onto your iphone. And now that you can do that I don’t listen to them as much anymore, because I don’t like earbuds and headphones. When I do listen to audiobooks, it tends to be if I’m on a roadtrip or something along those lines, where I’m going to be confined somewhere for multiple hours and I don’t want to or can’t bring a pile of books with me. And now that I’ve been doing that kind of thing a lot (pretty much my entire summer was spent bouncing from relative’s house to relative’s house), I’ve been listening to a lot more.
So onward with the list! May you enjoy these audiobooks, too.
SIMON VS. THE HOMO SAPIENS AGENDA BY BECKY ALBERTALLI, NARRATED BY MICHAEL CROUCH
This. audiobook. Not only is it fantastically narrated, but Michael Crouch is PERFECT for Simon. His voice is almost exactly what I imagined Simon sounding like, and that’s a rare, rare thing to happen.
THE GRAVEYARD BOOK BY NEIL GAIMAN, NARRATED BY NEIL GAIMAN AND VARIOUS OTHER PEOPLE.
A full cast audiobook. That’s what this is. And what makes it even better is that it’s A REALLY FREAKING AWESOME FULL CAST AUDIOBOOK. I’m serious. If you haven’t listened to it yet, listen to it right. now. Go. Don’t read the rest of this post, just go and listen to this.
WHITE CAT BY HOLLY BLACK, NARRATED BY JESSE EISENBERG
It’s actually really frustrating because I know that I know the name Jesse Eisenberg but I just can’t place it. But fantastic audiobook, entire series is fantastic as audiobooks, and so on and so forth.
ILLUMINAE BY AMIE KAUFMAN & JAY KRISTOFF, NARRATED BY OLIVIA TAYLOR DUDLEY, LINCOLN HOPPE, AND JONATHAN MCCLAIN.
You wouldn’t think that this book, with all its kooky formatting, would make a good audiobook. BUT THIS BOOK WAS MADE TO BE AN AUDIOBOOK. I don’t think I’m going to read Gemina, I think I’m going to get it as an audiobook and listen too it. And still probably get it as a book, because look at the pretty.
HALF BAD BY SALLY GREEN, NARRATED BY CARL PREKOPPE
It was so frustrating trying to find this audiobook, because my libraries didn’t have it, so I had to use an audible credit to get it, but it was worth it. So worth it. I haven’t listened to Half Wild, yet, but I thiiiink they changed the narrator and that’s so sad.
THE NIGHT CIRCUS BY ERIN MORGENSTERN, NARRATED BY JIM DALE
It’s narrated by the guy who did the Harry Potter audiobooks. If that hasn’t sold you, I don’t know what will.
FURIOUSLY HAPPY BY JENNY LAWSON, NARRATED BY JENNY LAWSON
It can be kind of risky to have an author narrate their own audiobook, and it seems like most of the time, it doesn’t turn out that great, but with this it worked perfectly. Who else can perfectly capture the hilarious, quirky, honest storytelling style of Jenny Lawson other than Jenny Lawson herself?
CINDER BY MARISSA MEYER, NARRATED BY REBECCA SOLAR
Rebecca Solar narrates the entire Lunar Chronicles series, and does a fantastic job. She perfectly captures all the voices and personalities, and you don’t get bored listening to it, even though they’re pretty long books.
CODE NAME VERITY BY ELIZABETH WEIN, NARRATED BY MORVEN CHRISTIE AND LUCY GASKELL
Prepare to cry. This book is feels-inducing enough when you’re just reading it, but somehow having it actually be read aloud makes it that much more painful.
VARIOUS OTHER AUDIO THINGS
I’m going to cheat a little bit and use my last space to tell you guys about the other audio-related things I’m currently listening too. I’m slowly working my way through the Spilled Milk Podcast archive, because A, they’re awesome, and B, it’s local. My dad and I listen to the BCC radio specials all the time, and my favorites are Creme de la Crime and the Delve Special, and both are older, I think (I know the Delve Special is), and they have old episodes on their website every five months or so.
And…that’s it! What audio things are you currently obsessed with, blogglings? Do you listen to audiobooks? Have you been caught up in the Podcast craze? Do you ever listen to the BCC radio shows?
