The Smashing & Dashing Character Awards Book Tag |

Hello, blogglings, it is I, Aine, back from my too-long totally unannounced hiatus. Meaning, I’m on winter break for the next two and a half or so weeks and will actually have time to blog. I also come baring a new computer, a non-crappy one that doesn’t randomly drop the WiFi signal, freeze up even though I only have one tab open, or eat files alive, never to be seen again.

I also get to choose the background image and not have to fight with my brother about it. So I have a cool exploding TARDIS background and he can’t tell me he doesn’t want a Doctor Who background, SO HA.

Anyways, new computer and brothers who don’t like Doctor Who aside, Cait has created her very own award/book tag, called, naturally, the Smashing & Dashing Character Awards Book Tag. It’s rather weird which naturally makes it awesome. So I’m doing it, and shoving this book tag out into the blogsphere.

Also, y’know, book characters are kind of my thing. I adore their little fictional selves.

1: MOST RELATABLE CHARACTER:

The fact that when I read this question my first instinct wasn’t to scream CATHER AVERY was quite impressive. I mean, yes, but I also identify with Newt Scamander on a deep level. I adore this little cinnamon roll. Is there a word for having a platonic crush on someone? If there is, I have it on Newt.

2: MOST PURE AND PRECIOUS ANIMAL COMPANION:

Manchee (or is it Manche? I can’t remember how to spell his name. Help). I mean, he was clearly the best part of The Knife of Never Letting Go. And, even though he’s not a companion, I read The One and Only Ivan a few weeks ago and it crushed me with the feels.

3:FIERCEST FIGHTER

I mean, I finally got my paws on a paperback copy of Black Widow, Forever Red, and you wouldn’t want to mess with either Natasha OR Ava. Either way you’re asking for pain. A lot of it. And possibly some snark.

4: MOST AMAZING SIDEKICK

I mean, I don’t want to call Lila a sidekick because clearly she’d murder you (in her eyes, Kell is probably HER sidekick), but I’m listing her because I absolutely love her.

5: ONE YOU’RE SURPRISED YOU LOVED

I didn’t think I’d love Jin from Rebel of the Sands. It seemed like he’d be the super typical “mysterious bad-boy” love interest, but he’s totally not and he’d better survive this series.

6: BEST SASSMASTER

I mean, other than like the entire cast of The Raven Boys, I have to say Carswell Thorne. I mean, there’s a reason why he’s a favorite in the series. He’s part sassmaster and part “things just kind of fall out of my mouth”

7: BEST ANTI-HERO/MORALLY GRAY GRAPE

Kaz from Six of Crows. If you wear reading these books from any perspective other than the Dregs’s, he’d probably be the horrible awful villain we all hated, but no, he’s Kaz, and he’s epic and needs to be protected. And it’s sad because I thought Six of Crows would be a trilogy and it’s only a duology and so I got cheated out of another book with him.

8: BEST WORST VILLAIN TO HATE

We all despise Umbridge, and we’ll all despise her forever and forever. Voldemort may, in time, be forgiven, but Umbridge never will.

9: TRULY ASTOUNDING WORST YA PARENTS

Cath’s parents from Heartless were kind of awful. I mean, not her dad so much, but they literally didn’t care about Cath’s happiness as long as she married the king and therefor raised their social status? YOU WOULD RATHER YOUR DAUGHTER BE ABSOLUTELY MISRERABLE SO YOU CAN SAY YOU’RE THE PARENTS OF THE QUEEN?

10: TRULY ASTOUNDING BEST YA PARENTS

Andie’s dad from The Unexpected Everything is pretty awesome. They don’t really have a relationship at the beginning, but by the end he’s helping her with scavenger hunts and they’re having movie and ice cream marathons!

11: TOOT TOOT BEST SHIP OF THEM ALL

THIS QUESTION IS TOO DIFFICULT HOW DARE YOU ASK THIS OF ME.

Simon and Blue  are extremely adorable, as are Andie and Clark and Cress and Thorne and Ronan and Adam and Denna and Mare and just all the ships are so cute!

12: IN THE MOST NEED OF PROTECTION

My poor little tortured anti-hero Nathan was put through SO MUCH and he didn’t deserve any of it and WHY DID YOU PUT HIM THROUGH IT?

13: MOST BORING AS A BARNACLE

I mean, I have no idea what Adelaide’s personality from The Glittering Court was, other than just narrator? She was boring, the book was boring, and it had none of the sassy characters I was hoping for that were in Vampire Academy.

14: THE BEST LITTLE ROYAL

I mean, yes, Of Fire and Stars had some problems, sure, but Denna was an adorable little innocent royal, who was kind of naive, but she was bookish and careful and thoughtful. And, yes, adorable.

15: VERY SURPRISED YOU’RE STILL ALIVE

I have no idea how Kate Harker from This Savage Song has managed to survive. She literally goes out looking for trouble and to start fights and, like, you live in a city literally overrun with monsters and you go out looking to punch somebody.

16: BEST AT HORRIBLE DECISION MAKING

Harry “I’m gonna do it” Potter. Without Hermione he wouldn’t have survived the first book. He’s like the walking equivelent of “what’s this strange snarling creature? I’m going to go poke it with a stick”.

17: CUTEST DORK

Simon from Simon Vs. The Homo Sapiens Agenda is such an adorable little dork, as is Lara Jean from To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before, and Cath from Fangirl.

18: CLEVEREST LITTLE HELLION

I need to mention Kaz again, because, I mean, Kaz.

19: MOST IN NEED OF A NAP

Other than me? Well, I don’t think Yael has slept once throughout Wolf By Wolf and Blood for Blood. I think she survives of off dried meat and rage.

20: WANT TO READ MORE ABOUT YOU

I’m frothing at the mouth to get at the Scorpio Races sequel Maggie Stiefvater is supposedly writing. I’d never turn down more of the Six of Crows gang, and I really want more of my babies from The Raven Cycle.

So, blogglings, have any of you done this tag yet? Are any of our answers similar? If you haven’t done it yet, do you think you’re going to?

Happy Saturday,

BlogSiggie

  1. YES PLATONIC CRUSHES I GET THEM ALL THE TIME. Like “I really want to be friends with you and have a special spot that’s just our own and a million inside jokes and I know we’d get along great but I’m too scared to talk to you.” Like that.

YES I WANT TO DO THIS TAG. The only thing that’s holding me back is the number of questions?? I struggle just getting through ten tags questions.

I definitely agree that no one’s ever going to like Umbridge. I think a lot of the reason we despise her so much is that she’s a villain we can relate to? Like, we’ve all had THAT teacher, but nobody’s ever had an evil wizard with no nose out to kill them.

    PYNCH. PYNCH. P Y N C H.

Awww Simon was one of my favorite narrators from a book I read this year. His voice was just so strong and relatable ❤

A SCORPIO RACES SEQUEL? Sign me up.

  2. I LOVE ALL YOUR ANSWERS SO MUCH OMG. I swear we’re like brain twins for so many of these and I highly approve of the amount of Six of Crows mentions. *nods* Also I thought SoC was going to be a trilogy too??! I was devastated?!? PLEASE OH PLEASE WRITE MORE, LEIGH BARDUG I WILL LITERALLY SELL MY SISTER’S SOUL FOR THIS. Ahem. And also yessss I forgot how awesome Andie’s dad was! And Adelaide was, ugh, she was so dull a pancake would’ve made a better travelling companion, tbh. How are ANY of VE Schwab’s characters still alive though??? Literally Kell and Rhy at every moment should be dead and also Kate and August and I don’t know how anyone in Vicious is still alive (well they were mostly dead at some points) so YEAH VE SCHWAB COULD MAYBE BE A BIT KINDER. (But also, no, because I love her books so much as is.)
I need to read Wolf by Wolf so badly.
Thanks for doing the tag!! *twirls happily and gives you all the cake*

    1. I have no idea why so many people thought it would be a trilogy because literally NOTHING said it would be a trilogy? Apparently we all just had some very wishful thinking.
WHY HAVE YOU NOT READ WOLF BY WOLF YET? CAIT. IT’S BEEN MORE THAN A YEAR.

  3. Andie’s dad was the best. I loved how their relationship developed so much over the book. ❤ I NEED more SoC, or just Grisha in general, and Raven Cycle books! Those two series are some of my favorites and I loved them all so much. I need more. *cries* I mean I'm glad Kate didn't die, but like, how??? I loved her, but she's so crazy and reckless. Oh and of course, Harry Potter, the best decision maker ever. Him and Ron should just be thankful they have Hermione there to talk some sense into them. It's a wonder he didn't die either, what with all of those stupid things he did. I still love Harry though, but wow, can he be stupid.

    1. I’ve always said that Gryffindors are brave to the point of stupidity, and Harry is like the prime example. I MEAN, REALLY. You’re ELEVEN, and you decide to take down a GROWN, TRAINED ADULT without TELLING ANYONE?
