Top Ten 2016 Releases I Was Totally Going To Read, But, Uh, Didn’t

It’s been forever since I’ve participated in a TTT. Of course, it’s been forever since I’ve actually blogged regularly, so technically I’ve been participating in TTT regularly, but just not blogging.

Because that makes total sense, right?

Anyways, this week’s theme is all about books you meant to read in 2016 but didn’t. I managed to keep up pretty decently with newly released books until, like, April, and then it’s like it all imploded and I was rereading Harry Potter while my bookshelf vomited my TBR into all corners of my room.

It was not pretty.

But, now, I’m here to talk about all the books released in 2016 that I haven’t actually read yet even though I was totally going to. And, spoiler alert, it’s way more then ten, even though I’m only going to list ten.

Vassa in the Night by Sarah Porter

It totally sounds like an Aine kind of book! Magical realism and creepy things and also weirdness. But I have I read it yet? Nooo. Because I can’t get around to it, apparently. Which is awful.

The Serpent King by Jeff Zentner

I thought this book was fantasy for the longest time. Mostly because I don’t actually pay attention to summaries if it’s not in caps yelling at me. But it’s not, it’s contemporary, and apparently really, really good contemporary? Plus there’s a blogger in it.

(Also, did I misspell “Zentner” as “Zenter” three times? Yes. Am I pronouncing it “Zatner” in my head for some reason? Yes)

A Study In Charlotte by Brittany Cavallaro

I think this actually might be a 2015 book. BUT THAT JUST GOES TO SHOW YOU HOW FAR BEHIND I AM. But it’s a Sherlock Holmes retelling with a genderswapped Sherlock and an enternally confused Watson, from what I’ve heard. I naturally really, really want to read it.

When the Moon Was Ours by Anna-Marie McLemore

I didn’t love The Weight of Feathers, but the writing style was insanely beautiful, and all I know about this book was that the girl grows roses from her arms? Which sounds massively uncomfortable, and I want to know more.

Beast by Brie Spangler

It’s a Beauty and the Beast retelling with a transgender Beauty, people! Why haven’t I busted down the doors of the bookstore for this book yet?

Labyrinth Lost by Zoraida Cordova

This book sounds so amazing and I meant to read it right when it came out but I didn’t and that’s a tragety.

Riders by Veronica Rossi

This is about a boy who becomes one of the four horsemen of the apocalypse. I think that he becomes War, but he could also become Famine. But I’m pretty sure he becomes War. Mostly sure. Either way, one of the four horsemen.

My Kind of Crazy by Robin Reul

This book is pitched as a boy accidently almost burns his crush’s house down with sparklers and because of that becomes friends with an aspiring pyromaniac. WHICH SOUNDS AWESOME, CLEARLY.

Last Seen Leaving by Caleb Roehrig

Do I own this book? Yes. Have I heard the author speak? Yes. Is it signed and was the author nice and did we talk about the weird “names” Starbucks writes on our cups? Yes. Have I read it yet?

NOPE.

As I Descended by Robin Talley

I’ve heard Robin Talley is a fantastic author, but I’ve never read any of her stuff before. I don’t think I’ve ever even heard of her stuff before. But this is a magical realism/horror-y Macbeth retelling with a lesbian MC (I believe. She could be bisexual). Either ways, it’s gotten great reviews and I’ve really been intending to read it but haven’t gotten around to it.
